Adrian, Texas - Half Way!

Friday April 10
Stayed last night just west of Amarillo TX. Checked out Hobby Lobby on the way through and found some great fabric. Tried 2 quilt stores but they’d already closed for the day. The campground was nice but cold – we were glad of the heater. I expected Texas would be warm, but forgot that when you’re 3800 feet above sea level it tends to be chillier than home at 300ft. Tried to update this blog but the internet connection was painfully slow. This morning there was no water first thing so that was a little exciting. Lizzie Mae’s Gift Shop right there at the campground was outstanding – sort of like a Cracker Barrel on steroids. Exercised great restraint and bought only a Christmas decoration. It’s probably a good thing that space is limited in the convertible.

Adrian TX Midway cafe where Bob had chocolate cream pie for breakfast. Actually we each had egg and sausage on a fabulous biscuit, but Midway is known for their pie, so…

The Midway Café really is exactly half way between LA and Chicago. The line cuts right through the diner.

They had a great gift shop and were very welcoming, inviting each diner to come in and have a look around, welcoming photography whether you bought something or not. This café was the inspiration for Flo’s Auto Diner in the movie, Cars. Although it is under new management now, the twins from the movie were based on a couple of waitresses here. There were visitors from France and Spain while we were there.

There was a neat gift shop next door too, with this great bicycle out front.
