More pictures from Tuesday in Illinois
We continued along through various towns, enjoying the lack
of traffic as even the locals seem to favour the interstates over Route 66.
We’re really enjoying watching spring unfold as we travel south. Today we saw
tulips trees, daffodils and red bud in bloom, along with crab trees and the
greening of willows. By the time we stopped for the night we’d seen already
manicured lawns.
We stopped in Lincoln trying to find a quilt shop. The
address was an empty store. There was a quilt shop across the street but
wouldn’t you know it, it was closed on Tuesdays. Oh well, I’m sure there will
be more shops along the way. Lincoln hasn’t fared as well as Pontiac with a lot
of empty businesses. The courthouse was quite spectacular – the dome was
beautiful. We even saw a couple of prisoners being brought in the back door.
The facades of the buildings were interesting even if they didn’t have active
businesses in them. We really like how many small American towns are set up
with a centre square around a town hall or courthouse with streets branching
off all around.
