| Clavelia and the kids all ready to go to church. I think I even see Gabby in the doorway. |
We went to the Church of Christ at Champions, a congregation of over 400 people. We were invited (and gladly accepted) to stay for lunch, provided by one of the eight "Family Circle" or life groups that make up this congregation. Great lessons and lots of yummy Mexican food. We bid good-bye to Clavelia, Alex, Sam, Jacob, Bella, Mil and Josie as we got back on the road. We had a lovely visit and were very glad to have been inside as it rained a lot over the weekend.
It got warm and sunny in the afternoon as we (and everyone else in Houston, it appears) headed south of Galveston. Houston gets the dubious prize for the worst drivers so far. Galveston was very crowded so we pretty much just drove through to the ferry.

| We were delighted to see pelicans and dolphins from the ferry. It was amazing! |
Fort Travis at Bolivar Point featured an historic bunker built in 1836 by soldiers and slave labour.
Named in honour of William B. Travis, famous defender of the Alamo. Sold as war surplus in 1949 it is now used as a hurricane refuge and civil defense shelter for area residents, aside from its obvious military uses.
We camped at Vinton, LA. We just got set up before the skies opened. It was very windy and rainy up until 10:30, then as a weather channel predicted, it stopped.
